Cookies and Curlers

For FHE we invited all the littles down to make
Gingerbread men. The fellas retired to the
basement to watch the Jazz play and we
ladies assisted in baking and decorating
our little Gingerbread men.
Here's a shot of the before....

And here is a shot of the after!
In between was a really big messs and
whole lot of fun! Let's just note that
the kids were basically done after
two cookies...with the exception of
Gabi who stayed to the end and
recited the Gingerbread Man Story
word for word!

This baking session was followed by a
tutorial in sponge curler setting
and Greta was thrilled to be the model!

Here are Jude and Greta displaying
the night's events.

There were enough cookies for everyone to take some home.

I think it was a success. What do you think?
XOXO

P.S. This is the best Gingerbread Cookie Recipe I have ever found.
LOVED IT! So I thought, I'd share....
NAUVOO GINGERBREAD COOKIES
1 cup white sugar
1 cup molasses
3/4 cup lard (I used Crisco)
1/2 cup hot water
2 eggs
6 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
In large bowl, ix together the sugar, molasses, lard and hot water until smooth. Stir in eggs. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg. Stir into the batter to make a soft dough. Cover the bowl and refrigerate dought for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
Preheat oven to 350. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. Place cookies onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cookies apprea dry in the center but still soft.
Makes about 72 cookies.
